End of Birthday Raffles! Join In!

May 3rd, 2008 by AndyAtHull

It has been almost a month since we turned two years old. And during that time various games and challenges were set-up in order to celebrate and enjoy the fact we turned two. What we also added was a chance to win full licences of programs.

As it’s towards the end of the period, which has gone over it’s planned slot, we still have some licences to give away! They are copies of Sunbelts’ Counterspy and Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware.

To enter on your choice of raffle, click on the links below:

And all you have to do is register and post you want to win! Then a number is allocated to your post and in a weeks time (depending on the amount of entries) we will put all numbers in a hat and draw the numbers!

Simple ‘eh? Go and get your copy!

Official - We’re now two years old!

April 8th, 2008 by AndyAtHull

Yes, it really is that long!. Securitycadets.com is now two years old! Amazing isn’t it? I am pleased we have reached this milestone for many reasons. I won’t go into them as they are obvious to many of you. But to those who have supported us, helped assiting users on our forum and just been there for advice, thank you!

If you are a regular of this forum, you may remember last years fun! Where we gave away licences to security and protection goods for your computer! Even from then, we have gained more than a 1000 members and assisted in over 800 hjt log/malware removal based topics. Not to mention the self-help guides we produced! But for us mostly it’s not about figures, it’s about being there to provide support and spread the word!

History

I remember well on how we got to this stage in our short but sweat history. I started a blog on Blogger, bought a domain a few months later and moved all those posts to a Wordpress install. Shortly after that a forum was purchased and the fun began.

Am I happy I begun this two years ago? Too right I am! When I began in this community I always wanted to choose this route. Of course there would be skeptics and those with doubt. But then in life when doesn’t that occur?

New features

Anyway, that’s a brief history. But I want to concentrate on the future and what we have in the pipework. Well, for a start, we already rolled out our new feature, dubbed “NewsBot”. NewsBot imports blog feeds from all around the globe to computer related ones. We created this so we could add more coverage of other news we may not cover, or we failed to cover. We researched and found that this was a good move to do. Go check it out here. Any regular member can reply, just not post a new topic.

The next feature is a big one. One that will still remain private. A sneak peak would suggest we are spreading our wings in a joint venture. You’ll just have to wait as to what they could be.

We’re also looking at adding the chat room back and also possible audio streaming features and more. Basically brand new stuff to blow your head away. Just so that more news can get to you in every way we possibly can cater for.

Celebrations

Celebrations during the next few weeks and month will of course be going on. Just head to our main celebration forum and read the pinned.

Sponsors

During this period the following companies are sponsoring our celebrations and birthday. They have also kindly donated some goodies.

For details about this and what has been donated, visit the pinned here.

So, how do we see the next year go? Well the same really, but with new features and a fresh approach. We plan to be here for a long time and those bad guys will know about it.

From everyone who works on this site, Happy Birthday and see you on our forum!

Report Rogue Anti-Spyware - Forum Opened

January 9th, 2008 by AndyAtHull

New year and new additions. We, here at SecurityCadets, have opened another forum. After lengthy discussions between our own staff you can now report potential rogue anti-spyware in our forum.

The world of malware is changing day by day and the hunger for money by rogue organisations is increasing. Rogue software is part of the internet now whether we approve or not. But we can do something about this. Make sure new ones are added quicker to right removal tools. Try and make sure we squeeze the money trail and report rogues before they hit the wild.

Don’t get me wrong, you can report things like this already at many places. This is nothing new we are doing here, but we are making the possibilities for reporting bigger and easier.

Our report forum is located here. You’ll have to register to post for security matters. Please also read the pinned topics for general info. All samples or reports will then be dealt with and passed on to the relevant personnel.

Tell you neighbour and their neighbour. E-mail this to your friends. Let’s make this happen

Once I am back home …

December 28th, 2007 by AndyAtHull

… I’ll be kicking butt again!

I did say a week or so ago that I posted my last article for the year. However whilst I have been on holiday, several items have come to light which I will be going into once I am back from holiday. Probably near Sunday evening this weekend.

I may be on holiday, but suckers, I still have my eye on you!

That’s it folks for me this year!

December 20th, 2007 by AndyAtHull

It’s that time again where we all stuff our face with some festive food and sit and watch re-runs of old Christmas movies.

I will be going away this Christmas into mainland Europe and spend some time with family. Last time we spent Christmas away from home was a few years ago when I just started to create this blog. We went on a skiing trip to Bulgaria. However this year will be different.

You may or may not find some new posts before I return. Our guest bloggers’ may post a few things here and there. However I wouldn’t want you to glare every five minutes to check. Enjoy your holidays however you spend it!

For those seeking assistance in our forum. Please bare in mind that our helpers too may be away with their family. Any help you may require will likely not be there or very delayed.

But from all of us at SecurityCadets.com:

Merry Christmas and a Happy 2008

See you in the new year!

So there I was, listening to CNI Radio and we popped up!

November 11th, 2007 by AndyAtHull

Yesterday, whilst chatting to a known community expert, we got chatting about Internet radio and each others blogs. Plus security was a hot topic as well.

We discussed the recent spat between IE Defender and the community and the well documented discussion between ESG and the community. And other areas’. It was nice to chat with someone whom I don’t chat too often, yet we had a lot in common.

After awhile I was introduced to an Internet radio station this expert broadcasts from every week, CNI Radio. It was nice to see such an approach as I have hardly ever listened to Internet radio that covers the area we work in.

To cut a long story short, we got asked permission for them to mention us in their weekly show. What do you think my answer was?

… Correct, it wasn’t going to be No.

I’ll try and get a recording as soon as I can. This is a nice mark for me personally and for us as a support site. We now ride the air waves! Thanks goes out to Bambi for making it possibly. It’s a worthy show if you like to be educated.

Get involved and make a difference!

October 17th, 2007 by AndyAtHull

It’s not often I post sites news on our home page. Mainly because we are going about our business nicely in a good manner and I never feel the need to do so. However, let’s make an exception!

I very much consider this support site a community based one rather than an englishman running the show. Yes I pay the bills, but we have a wide variety of people working at this site. Especially our support forums.

Basically we have some pretty big things coming up and before those come up we need your input! As you will notice, you should be able to see a poll structure to your right. Well, I explain everything here. Let’s work together and make a difference!
