In the wild: VirusLocker & VirusProtectPro – New Rogues
Well after an eventful week I can start to get back into things and blog about a few new rogues kicking about. Stay tuned for articles about what has taken place here this last week. I’ll also be on TV, which I will upload and blog about.
… Let’s get on with it.
There have been several new rogues about which are clones and being automatically installed through various of ways.
VirusLocker;
This one seems to have been around as certainly my anti-virus alerts me when I download it. It has not been blogged about a lot though which is why I am bringing it more into the spotlight.
There is no real surprise in who hosts it and who it was registered with. The whois tells all the details. Like for example the registrar is Estdomains Inc and the IP location is Inhoster Hosting Company. Both known to be associated with rogue applications.
Virus Protect Pro;
This one looks familiar to some of you as it’s a clone in looks and the way it gets spread.
Like I mentioned, it looks alot like SpyLocked, SpyDawn, VirusBurst(ers), and many more.
Again the whois is no suprise either as like the previous rogue and the clones, Estdomains Inc and Inhoster dominate.
It’s believed these are automatically installed via codecs and other methods. These are fake applications and in all honesty offer no use other than to scam you with money. If you have been affected by these then get yourself into our forum. You can also discuss it in here in more detail.
