      Spammers taking the wrong turn!

      February 14th, 2007 by AndyAtHull

Not so long ago I blogged about a spammer that happend to spam about a good program we use in the fight against malware. Well now this spammer has taken a step in the wrong direction.

The direction taken by the spammer was to change his or her name to a known malware fighter in the security community. And as you can imagine the person in question was not pleased:

Imagine my suprise to find that someone else is using my Nym. Using my name to slander a product I SUPPORT. Using my name to post negative information about a product that is developed by a fellow security professional. I’m mad, FIGHTING MAD.

Not only does this individual seek to discredit RogueRemover, MalwareBytes, and it’s developers. Now, he/she/it is bringing discredit upon my online persona. I pick and choose my battles carefully, but now this fight has been thrust upon me.

Who is this person? Well he/she/it has used several nyms: KayKaspersky, KayKaspers, big-bambu, Big_Bambo, BigBambo, B.Sals, Mark Erricson.

He/She/It has even gone so far as to use the Nyms of: RogueRemover, Marcin Kieczynski, Jack Morrissey, and mine ShadowPuterDude.

The IP information I have been able to obtain shows that this individual is from Cario, Egypt. However, I can’t be sure this is actually accurate.

Yes ShadowPuterDude (who helps on our forum) was the victim here. You can find and should read the whole post over at MalwareTeks. It goes into more details what the whole deal is about.

So not only do we face malware writers coming out with new malware, we also face spammers trying to discredit the people that help remove the malware. On the whole, not a suprise. But certainly not a nice thing. Let us know what you think. You can also discuss it in our forum. Meanwhile Digg it here!

Revenge on the whole community I think to be honest. It now seems the spammer in question has used other known names.

Andy, great cover. Yes, we’ve hit a cord with this particular miscreant. When KK first started posting I thought; OK, this will last for a couple of weeks and then he/she/it would go away. No, he/she/it is certainly persistent. KK can run, but he/she/it can’t hide forever. There’s several people on the trail of KK.

Heh, thanks. I wouldn’t say great. I typed it up in a rush. I’ll probably re-adjust it slightly tomorrow.

It has been going on for weeks indeed. And you would expect it to just go away into the darkness. Unfortunatly this one didn’t.

I’ll also add it too fail.com. Or you can add your article if you wish.

Andy, you can add it to fail.com. I’ve quite a bit going on right now and may not get around to it.
