CCleaner bundled with Yahoo ToolBar?

February 7th, 2006 by AndyAtHull

Yes, that is if you don’t uncheck the check mark when you install CCleaner v.1.27.255 Beta! Now for a user that is not computer savvy they will overlook this and then once CCleaner is installed and they pop up Internet Explorer they will get a surprise.

Above you will notice a nice image on what I am writing about. You download CCleaner v.1.27.255 Beta, install it. And this is what I am talking about. People get so excited these days installing programs. They just click this, that and don’t even read the license agreement. The license agreement on this program does not mention Yahoo at all apart from the image above. So what do you see when you open up IE? Look below.

Now what a surprise this would be. Offcourse this version of CCleaner is in Beta mode. And not available from the website itself. But ask yourself this. What is a program that cleans out your computers history files etc doing with a toolbar like Yahoo? The mind boggles. Even when the toolbar is installed the pop-up blocker is already active. Surely you would get a separate setup for the toolbar?

However the toolbar can be uninstalled very easy by going to Add/Remove. So until the official version of this is out we cannot say much to warn users about this. Apart from. If you want the toolbar, don’t uncheck it. Otherwise do so.

  1. Something sick and wrong about this.

There is certainly something fishy about this. Maybe an e-mail to CCleaner about this will clear things up.

    I’m on to it.

I have found this at CCleaners Forum. Seems many do not like this idea either.

Testimonials for SCars

  • "SCars is probably one of the better programs I have in my arsenal to help keep people up to date and cleaned up. Yes, you could tell people to run cleanup programs once a week. Or you could get SCars to remind them!" - Olrik Lenstra
