Stand Up and Be Counted - Malware Complaints continued

For years now . . .

. . . Users of the Internet are being plagued by websites and programs which try to

  • hijack their computer,
  • trick them into making high (dialing-)expenses,
  • very aggressively steal passwords and banking information, and
  • influence their surfing habits.

Such actions are an attempt to trick people into purchasing programs which do not work properly or not at all, can harm the affected computer, or just attempt to damage or destroy the operating system, security-programs and/or other programs.

Of course, we are talking about Viruses, Trojans, Spyware, Hijackers, Dialers, Adware and fake (malware-scanning) programs — or Malware, in short.

Until now, people who fell victim to malware, could not do much more than try to remove it from the computer — at times spending a lot of money to get the computer in working order again.

But that can change now!

What is Malware Complaints?

Simply put, Malware Complaints is a website forum. However, for more than one reason, it is a unique forum.

Malware Complaints is a cooperation between many anti-malware helpers and experts from all over the world. From all corners of the world, these people have joined together to make it possible for users, from whatever part of the world they come, to make their complaint against malware and the makers of it.

Malware Complaints
offers people who have been (or are) victims of malware the opportunity to document their story and, in that way, launch a complaint against the malware and the makers of the malware.

Instead of only removing the malware (or let it be removed) and wait for the next infection, users can really stand up against the makers of malware!

What will Malware Complaints do with the complaints, which users post?

Malware Complaints collects the complaints and stories, by country/region as well as by malware-group or -family, that way creating the possibility to:

  • issue petitions, which can be offered to governments and official bureaus that deal with internet security, thus making it clear to those officials how extensive the problems with malware have evolved;
  • make malware-issues known to the news media, which, in turn, can make malware and their makers known to the world.

Why should victims tell their story?

Malware Complaints is doing something that malware and malware-makers absolutely do not want.

The goal of Malware Complaints is to bring malware(-makers) into the open. This exposure to the public and government officials will make it much harder for them to operate.

When malware is described by the press and rejected by politicians and/or official organizations, it can even become possible to outlaw malware and it will then be possible, for everyone, to take legal action against malware-makers.

This is the place to tell your story -> <- where you can make a difference!

The BIG news. Malware Complaints gets launched.

February 25th, 2006 by AndyAtHull

Well at around Sunday 26th of Feb. 00:01 GMT time.

What is Malware Complaints?

Without going into great detail. It is a new forum for victims of malware that can complain. Yeah…Could not explain it any better! Here is a quote from that site:

“For years now . . .
. . . Users of the Internet are being plagued by websites and programs which try to

* hijack their computer,
* trick them into making high (dialing-)expenses,
* very aggressively steal passwords and banking information, and
* influence their surfing habits.

Until now, people who fell victim to malware, could not do much more than try to remove it from the computer — at times spending a lot of money to get the computer in working order again.”

That over. Let me tell you a bit more. At Malware Complaints we have malware fighters from across the globe to help with this. So if you are Dutch. We have a Dutch room. If you are from India. We have a room for that country. So on and on. But this forum is not for assisting.

A few weeks ago Nellie2 from MalwareRemoval went on a mission. And that mission got a great response. She even set up a sub forum at MR for victims to report their feelings. And even got on the BBC website. That got her thinking, and others, to step it up. So they have.

We hope this to be the biggest step up on the fight against the rogue vendors. To gather complaints from users and make the goverments around the world to stand up and take this all in. So if you have been a victim of WinFixer, SpyFalcon or any other infection. Please visit this site, MalwareComplaints, and stand up and be counted.

There will be a banner on this site for this forum. If you want a banner for your support board then please visit the site and go to the Publicity subforum for options on banners and signature banners. If you are an expert than please include a banner in your signature on ALL forums to spread the word.

Thank you.

Google Ads on Security-Cadets.

February 16th, 2006 by AndyAtHull

Don’t be worried. I put them there. I just want to know what the ads will offer on a blog like this. For example this being a security blog, we should get adverts that correspond with security, online scanners and other products relating to security. Some adverts out there may have rogue products advertised. And I thought it would be interesting to research this. I got the idea from BillP the creator of WinPatrol. He ran this experiment on his blog. So becarefull on what you see. Some adverts may be rogue.

It is all in the name of research. Making the internet a safer place for users. If you have any feedback on this. Please comment.

Disclaimer - Please do NOT click on any adverts. These adverts are for research purpose only. If you click on a rogue link and get infected. I will not take any responsibility for this. To double check for yourself on rogue programs please check SpywareWarriors - Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites. Thank you for your co-operation.

A new replacement for SpyAxe/SpywareStrike/SpyFalcon?

February 14th, 2006 by AndyAtHull

Just days after the SpyFalcon out break we covered here. It seems the company behind this has changed the name again. This is only a report and not confirmed as yet. But a user at CastleCops has complained about this new rogue program and the symptoms seem to be the same as the previous programs that SunShine Ltd have brought out. The new name is SpyFox!

To quote from the users complaint that can be seen at the above CastleCops link:

“All the while there is this REALLY annoying indicator in the lower right corner that looks like a windows icon (I assure you it’s not) trying to tell me that my machine is infected. If I choose to move my mouse anywhere near this thing the darn SpyFox tries to revive itself from the deathbed. I don’t want this thing, I have not agreed to connect to anything through the various pop-up items that keep showing up — rather I delete them and then chase down and uninstall the software.”

So with this in mind. And with the name being changed more often than a blobbo-grams (hope that is spelt right) underwear. What is next? To be honest your guess is as good as mine. Who knows what name will be next. I can think of several starting with Spy.

If this is confirmed as a clone of SpyAxe etc, be sure to see a few screenshots about it in the future. And also an update with a fix for this.

Stay tuned….

Edit - I would like to add. This is NOT confirmed yet! And untill it is, as far as we know it could be something else other than the previous SpyAxe/SpywareStrike.SpyFalcon programs.

How to get the fight on malware criminals to a good start.

February 10th, 2006 by AndyAtHull

Well just have a chat with your local MP(Member of parliament) and the BBC, simple!

Remember the story I posted about fighting back with telling people the inside outs on what you was infected by? Well you should. After futher a discussion with her local MP, Nellie2 from malwareremoval.com spoke with the BBC. Discussing what she has been doing these last few weeks. And what users can do to help. And since then the hits on the main site have staggered.

For a full read on the story at the BBC click here.

There is a fix for SpyFalcon!

February 9th, 2006 by AndyAtHull

Well I told you it would not take that long.

One of the teachers at MalwareRemoval has posted about this on their blog.

“There is now a fix for SpyFalcon, the latest rogue program from the same people who created SpyAxe. At the time of this writing, SmitRemfix doesn not remove all the files. So an additional file is need to finish cleaning up your computer.

It is easy to know you have been infected by SpyFalcon, because you will be prompted to buy it. First you will get a warning balloon similar to the one Windows Update uses that appears above the clock on your computer.”

This is just a taster from MalwareRemovals very own; Nicks blog - Click here for the full read.

Nick has been known for very succesfull type ups for SpyAxe and SpywareStrike. And this is just another excellent article. Now this new malware, SpyFalcon, is in its early stage at the moment. But I am monitering a few logs with SpyFalcon were this blog as been suggested. If you have been infected by this please visit MalwareRemoval and an expert will be with you as soon as possible.

SpyAxe/SpywareStrike renames itself again! SpyFalcon!

February 9th, 2006 by AndyAtHull

Well yeah it is true. But are you surprised? I certainly am not! Hand these people a prize. Maybe it should be that Adware man that Paperghost knows? I heard he is after a new home!

At the start of January of this year I reported that SpyAxe changed to SpywareStrike that we discussed here. But it seems SunShine Ltd who is behind this has changed the rogue tool again to SpyFalcon according to Sunbelt.

This offcourse may mean the fix for SpyAxe/SpywareStrike provided by Noahfear may not work yet for this new rogue program. But I am almost positive he will update the fix as support forums start getting users with the SpyFalcon problem.
